Woman Reveals True Cost of Beauty as She Shares Itemized List of Treatments

A woman has shared an exact breakdown of how much it costs each year to look like her, with some people expressing surprise that she’s spending the equivalent of their annual salary.

Mya Jacobson uploaded an itemized list of beauty treatments, groceries and her fitness bills to TikTok, revealing she shells out about $24,000 on her appearance.

Jacobson, from Arizona, posted the breakdown to her page earlier this month, where it has amassed nearly 2.5 million views. In total, she claims the price of maintaining her looks is $23,815—$26,647, depending on how often she goes to her spin class and how many new outfits she buys.

While some may balk at the cost, Jacobson added that the figure would be higher, but she gets beauty treatments for free, as she works in a spa. Her Instagram states she’s a “Licensed Aesthetician + Laser Tech.”

She captioned the clip, set behind a green screen showing off a spreadsheet and available to be viewed here: “How much I spend in a year to look like me.”

Jacobson talks followers through her self-care regime, saying: “When I get my hair done, dyed. When I go to the salon and get it balayaged it’s about $300, I go about five times a year I think.

“My lash extensions I get them done every three weeks, that’s $90 including the tip. My lip filler, I get it twice a year. I work at a med spa so it’s only $200 each time. My botox, I get a lip flip every two months and it’s only $40. I work at a med spa and get free facials with microneedling, skin treatments, every month, so the $30 is just the tip.”

And explaining more about the difference in a follow-up clip, Jacobson said: “Where I work lip fillers are hyaluronic acid-based fillers that are injected into your lips to increase volume. So they make them appear bigger, give that plumping effect. A lip flip is botox that’s injected above your lip here, and that’s to relax this muscle, so when you smile your top lip doesn’t go under.”

Her biggest cost is her personal trainer at $4,560 a year, although if she spent the upper end of her budget—$400—a month on clothes that would surpass that, at $4,800.

“My clothing, I probably spend £200 to $400 a month, give or take. I’m not really sure,” she said. Her $65 nail appointment includes the tip, she confirmed, while explaining “haircare” related to her shampoo and conditioner.

Jacobson continued: “My microblading for my eyebrows, once a year, it’s $250. My make-up I probably spend about $500 a year on make-up, not really sure.

“And then healthy eating out, like acai bowls, smoothies, stuff like that. My workout supplements, probably about $100 a month, maybe more. But that’s just a rough estimate.”

She ended the video, which she filmed while getting her hair curled: “And for that price you can probably look like me.” While the math she shared doesn’t quite add up to the totals she quoted, she did say the tip and frequencies can vary month-to-month.

After her video attracted a lot of interest, it seems Jacobson received some negative comments regarding her treatments. Responding in the comments, she wrote: “I shouldn’t have to explain this but my personal trainer is at a different gym, I go about 4 x a week and go to Planet Fitness on days I don’t do PT.

“Some of you have too much time on your hands with these comments. But seriously if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it.”

Some people praised her for her honesty, with Joy Siegers writing: “Thanks for sharing. A lot of young girls should know that good looks (often) don’t come without money / time / effort.”

Jemdollas commented: “I love the honesty here vs the girls that say ‘I eat what I want and don’t workout but I’m perfect.”

Empsully said: “It’s insane how much the beauty industry makes.”

Natalia wrote: “I really like this video. It’s easy to compare yourself to strangers without knowing the money and time they put into their appearance.”

While Kenz thought: “That’s how much I make in a year lmao.”
