Regional fashion designers bring out the best of their talent at Men’s Arab Fashion Week in Dubai

Some of the best fashion designers from across the globe came together in Dubai, as the third edition of Arab Men’s Fashion Week took place last week at the creative hub of Dubai Design District, also known as d3.

The three-day event brought the fashion community together on a global platform, as 15 emerging and seasoned designers showcased their latest collections.

While the fashion event saw top international designers showcase their collections, it was the regional Arab talent that shined through, at the shows.

Lebanese label Maison Du Mec offered classic tailoring and suiting, with the ‘Test new waters’ collection. Joseph Achajian, the creative director, and founder of Lebanese label said the collection was ‘Rebels in corporate suits, astronauts at the cashier and mad artists disguised as the guy next door…’

Libyan brand Born in Exile showcased the impact of the country’s oil boom on the economic and social landscape. Titled ‘Blood, Sweat and Oil’, it featured mixed materials with many designs splashed with an oil print.

Debutant in the Middle Eastern fashion scene, the label Barmo established by Bardiya Mortezaei in 2021 showcased pieces inspired by the great artists of the Modernist era.

Titled ‘Am I Floating Or…’ by Lebanese designer Ahmed Amer showcased suiting, jackets, and athleisure wear, with many pieces featuring custom illustrations, patterns, and hand embroidery. It was the first time he launched a collection outside of Beirut.

Jordanian artist Zaid Farouki’s namesake label showcased six looks that were inspired by the culture, land, and history of the Arab region. The brand’s signature taglines, which mix English and Arabic ‘I am oriental’, ‘I am Arab’ and ‘Being Arab Is My Pride’ stood out at the show.

Beiruti brand Emergency Room displayed the power of upcycling, as the brand works with thrift second-hand and vintage materials to create one-of-a-kind designs. Started by Eric Mathieu Ritter, the brand showcased colourful ensembles with mismatched prints at Men’s Arab Fashion Week.
