Every fashion week season, a standout accessory is seen donned by showgoers as they make their way to watch the designers’ new collections. Last year amid the coronavirus pandemic, the closest we got to the hottest accessory was our house slippers. Accessories (and looks) were indeed kept minimal as we enjoyed shows from the comforts of our couches. 2019 was a big year for baguette and micro bags, and skinny sunglasses.
For the first post-pandemic NYFW season, it looks like the hottest accessory is lining up to be a practical and very necessary one–a vaccination card. A trend hopefully we’re all already on board with. I mean — what’s hotter than keeping yourself and those around you safe? The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced this week that all runway shows will require proof of vaccination for all attendees and staff. IMG, the official organizer and operator of NYFW’s event and official central hub, NYFW: The Shows at Spring Studios, also will require proof of vaccination for all.
“Following IMG’s announcement of a vaccination requirement at NYFW: The Shows, we encourage the broader industry to follow suit as it is imperative to place the safety of guests and those working events in the highest priority,” the CFDA said in a statement shared with GRAZIA. “We will be closely following updates and recommendations from the CDC, New York State, and city, and will be releasing further detailed guidelines in mid-August.”
Both the CFDA and IMG announcements are just after the city of New York, making vaccinations required for all indoor dining, gyms, and other enclosed activities. So make sure when you’re towing your keys, wallet, and phone in your stylish bag, you don’t forget to add in your vaccination card. If you were vaccinated in New York state, you have the option to download the Excelsior pass app to add your vaccine card to your digital wallet, one list thing to have to remember to bring.
