Satisfy your passion for fashion at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Weld County’s Fabulously Frugal Fashion for a Cause event
Do you have a flair for fashion?
Does your brain get a rush of dopamine when you snag a great deal on a piece of clothing, shoes or accessories?
Do you have a passion for helping kids in our community?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions then the Fabulously Frugal Fashion for a Cause event is calling your name.
The event, hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Weld County, will feature racks of different clothing items that have been “pre-loved and are ready to be re-loved.”
“Fabulously Frugal Fashion is something I’ve had in my mind for a really long time. Oh my lord, you should see my basement,” explained Lorri Duran, one of the organizers of the event, laughing. “I am a hoarder with clothes and I had a pile for Leanna’s Closet and with COVID, I couldn’t get it there. Then this came along and I thought what a great first fundraiser for our Growing Futures campaign.”
The organization has partnered with Leanna’s Closet for the event. Leanna’s Closet is a a local non-profit that provides job appropriate clothing for women in Weld County. The organization is housed in the new Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 2080 Greeley Mall St., Unit D5.
“They have given us some great resources and connections to make this event possible and they will have a table there to share about their cause,” said Beryl Durazo, vice president for Advancement for the organization. “It was really important for us as a great community supporter and partner to make sure that we are sharing the love there.”
Some of the items that will be up for sale include a Louis Vuitton purse, a couple of Coach purses, clothing, shoes, long dresses and more.
“Some of the items still have tags on them and are brand new,” Durazo quipped. “The Louis Vuitton bag has only been used once.”
Organizers will have different racks set up in different price points as well as designer racks.
“It will be a really great opportunity for those looking to refresh their wardrobe before summer,” Durazo said.
Duran is donating space at her and her husband’s company, Duran Excavating, for the event.
“Every time I do an event, I am very frugal; I want the money to go toward the cause. I don’t want all this hoopla and everything else, the money needs to go toward the Boys & Girls Club,” Duran said. “I’m a shopper but I shop frugal, and I don’t think women have to spend a lot to look good.”
All ages are welcome to attend the free event and light refreshments will be served.
“We will have wine and a little dessert and then we are focusing on shopping,” Duran said. “We did it during the week so moms could have a little break and come congregate with other women.”
The Growing Futures offers women in the community the opportunity to become mentors to local girls and teens.
The mentors are comprised of women from different circles, backgrounds and careers who have come together to support, advocate and empower girls within the club.
“This program provides an additional subset to explore careers. Monthly we have career clusters, we go on a field trip and host hobby days,” Durazo said. “We launched it in November 2021 and we have about 27 partners and 12 founding members. It’s an amazing program.”
Every Boys & Girls Club in Weld County will have the opportunity to provide these experiences to its female members.
Members of the Growing Futures program are involved in the program’s Education Committee, Partnership Committee and/or Executive Committee.
“We have some really passionate women of all ages who are involved in our group,” Durazo said. “So it’s really bringing a vast environment for girls to explore that they wouldn’t be touching in school. This is something that is unique and it’s not something anyone else is doing.”

While girls in the program benefit, so do the women who serve on the committees.
Members of Growing Futures invest directly with the club’s female empowerment programs, learn about issues facing young women in our community, engage with the club’s girls and teens through hands-on volunteer opportunities and meet and work with other women leaders in the community.
Durazo’s goal for Growing Futures is to eventually offer mentorships and internships to girls in the program.
“I love that it’s focused on the girls. The boys have a lot of things like this, but girls get left out,” Duran added. “I love the mission of the Boys & Girls Club and what it does for our community.”
