Melania Trump’s 5 Biggest Fashion Fails Aside From ‘I Really Don’t Care’ Jacket
KEY POINTS
- Melania Trump’s oversized Balenciaga bubble coat made her look small
- The ex-FLOTUS inspired hilarious memes with her unisex black and white ensemble
- Melania had mismatched her accessories with her outfits on some occasions
Melania Trump has made a mark in the fashion industry especially when she served as the first lady of the United States, but there were a few times when her outfits also raised some eyebrows.
Leona Liu, editor of STYLE, looked back at Melania’s biggest fashion fails aside from her “I don’t really care, do you” jacket. The rare moments included Melania’s oversized Balenciaga coat and mismatched accessories.
1. Poor choice of an oversized coat
Melania and former President Donald Trump were photographed stepping out of Air Force One on Dec. 31. She sported an oversized Balenciaga bubble coat and paired it with Christian Dior calfskin boots.
The coat created a visually dwarfing effect on the former first lady who stands 5 feet 11 inches tall. Her slouchy footwear only made her look worse.
2. Inappropriate high fashion outfit
In 2018, Melania visited Ghana and she raised some eyebrows when she showed up in a full high fashion arsenal. Her wardrobe was deemed inappropriate because the region she visited was plagued with poverty and humanitarian issues.
She dressed up in a $2,000 Celine dress and Manolo Blahnik white pumps when she visited a hospital. Many also disapproved of her red-and-white striped top that came with a matching scarf during her first major international solo trip as the FLOTUS.
3. Melania’s ‘Florence suits’ in Egypt
During the same African tour, Melania made another fashion blunder in Egypt. The former first lady showed up wearing a unisex black and white ensemble on one outing — a cream suit, a white button-up, black tie and a fedora.
Melania’s look inspired hilarious memes with many netizens joking about her look by comparing it to Annie Hall costumes and even to Hannibal Lecter’s famous “Florence suit.”
“Melania Trump looks like she’s stolen Hannibal Lecter’s Florence suits,” one wrote on Twitter with Melania’s photo.
“Hannibal meets Annie Hall?” another commented.
4. Gingham dress on Independence Day
Melania opted for a plunging blue and white gingham dress by Ralph Lauren for Independence Day in 2018. However, she made another fashion blunder by pairing it with an Alexander McQueen red leather belt and matching Christian Louboutin pumps.
The ex-FLOTUS’ bold accessories were so festive that many felt it did not match harmoniously with her dress.
5. All-American look on Fourth of July
Donald Trump’s wife showed off an all-American look by wearing a navy and white asymmetrical dress by designer Esteban Cortazar. While the color of the dress was taken as a nod to the American flag, many found its spaghetti straps and cleavage-revealing neckline inappropriate for the occasion.
Despite the fashion faux pas, many still consider Melania one of the best-dressed first ladies in U.S. history. Some netizens even urged first lady Jill Biden to take fashion tips from her.
