Louisville’s most inclusive Derby fashion show features models of all shapes, sizes and abilities
One of the most inclusive Derby fashion shows is back for another year of fundraising.Down With Derby is happening Thursday, April 14, at the Kentucky Derby Museum.The event includes cocktails, food and a fashion show featuring the latest Derby fashions from five local boutiques, Macy’s and Dillard’s.More than 40 models will be walking the runway. Organizer, Nicole Volz said the models are of all ages, sizes and abilities.Volz started the Down With Derby fashion show six years ago in honor of her sister, Ellie, who is diagnosed with Down syndrome and an immunodeficiency disorder.”A lot of times we would be in the grocery store and people would look or point and not understand,” said Volz. “So, for me, it’s a way for me to show that folks with disabilities are no different than you and I. It may take them a little longer but they have personalities and a spirit of their own.”The event will benefit the Kids Center for Pediatric Therapies this year.A nonprofit that provides support to the most vulnerable children in our community through life-changing therapeutic services.The Kids Center’s mission is to help children with special needs live their best life by maximizing their abilities; regardless of the family’s ability to pay for care.Down With Derby is from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Derby Museum on April 14.Tickets start at $45.You can also participate in the silent auction and make a donation through your favorite model by clicking here.
