Amber Heard’s full dating history: Boyfriends and girlfriends include Johnny Depp, Elon Musk, Tasya van Ree
Amber Heard has had a series of relationships outside her marriage to Johnny Depp, including several girlfriends.
Amber Heard has had her fair share of ups and downs in the romance department.
Aside from ex-husband Johnny Depp – with whom she’s currently engaged in a nasty courtroom battle – the actress has navigated relationships with many high-profile figures ranging from billionaire Elon Musk to cinematographer Bianca Butti.
This is a break down of Heard’s full dating history.
Tasya van Ree
Heard – who came out at GLAAD’s 25th-anniversary event in 2010 – began dating photographer Tasya van Ree in 2008.
Heard said she felt like she had to be open about dating van Ree.
“I happened to be dating a woman, and people started taking pictures of us walking to our car after dinner. I (was) holding her hand, and I realised that I have two options: I can let go of her hand and, when asked about it, I can say that my private life is my private life. Or I could not let go and own it,” she told Allure in 2017
“Everyone told me: ‘You cannot do this.’ I had played opposite Nicolas Cage, and in another I was playing opposite Johnny. And everyone said, ‘You’re throwing it all away. You can’t do this to your career.’ And I said, ‘I cannot do this any other way. Watch me.”
The romance was so intense that Heard legally changed her last name to van Ree during their courtship.
In 2009, Heard was arrested for domestic violence against the photog after an altercation at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Years later, van Ree told Us Weekly that the incident was “misinterpreted.”
“Amber was wrongfully accused for an incident that was misinterpreted and over-sensationalized by two individuals in a power position,” van Ree said in 2016. “I recount hints of misogynistic attitudes toward us which later appeared to be homophobic when they found out we were domestic partners and not just ‘friends’. Charges were quickly dropped and she was released moments later.”
Despite making it through the arrest, the couple split in 2012, with Heard reinstating her birth name following the breakup.
Johnny Depp
After meeting on the set of the 2009 film “Rum Diaries,” Heard and Johnny Depp began to spark dating rumors in 2011. The couple wed in 2015 on the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star’s private Caribbean island.
Their marriage was seemingly doomed from the start, with Depp allegedly joking that “now I can punch her” to his best man as they walked from the ceremony to the reception on his wedding day.
Depp has denied ever physically assaulting Heard, and has repeatedly accused the “Aquaman” actress of being violent herself.
Heard ultimately filed for divorce, which was finalized in 2016. The exes are currently embroiled in a defamation lawsuit brought forth by Depp against Heard for $50 million. The actor alleges that claims Heard made in a Washington Post op-ed seriously damaged his career, costing him in excess of $40 million in earnings.
Elon Musk
Despite accusations of cheating on Depp with Elon Musk while she was still a married woman, Heard insists that her relationship with the tech billionaire didn’t begin until her divorce from the actor and Musk’s divorce from then-wife Talulah Riley were both finalized in 2016.
After a year of Instagram moments together, the pair spilt in August 2017, though not for long, as they reunited in under five months.
By February 2018, Musk and Heard split for good. A source told Page Six at the time that Musk “made the decision to end things,” and Heard agreed that the relationship had run its course.
“The timing just wasn’t right, but they still care about each other,” the insider explained.
Vito Schnabel
Three months after her split from Musk, rumors of Heard dating art dealer Vito Schnabel began to circulate.
Unfortunately, they split after less than one year, reportedly due to “long distance,” a source told Us Weekly at the time.
Andres Muschietti
Heard began dating director Andy Muschietti in May 2019, but the flash in the pan romance fizzled out by the end of the year.
Not much is known about their brief romance.
Bianca Butti
Heard went public with Bianca Butti in January 2020 after being snapped in a heated make-out session with the cinematographer in Palm Springs, California.
Distance appears to have killed their future as well, as The Mirror reports that the couple split in December 2021 after having spent “months apart”.
At the time, Butti was working in Los Angeles while was Heard shooting “Aquaman 2” in the UK.
Speaking to Marie Claire in 2018, Heard was asked if her taste in women was better than her taste in men. She replied: “Hell, yeah. Hell, yeah. Hell, yeah.”
“There’s something to be said about who one is drawn to,” Heard added. “I’m not necessarily drawn to … healthy. But I have hope. I hope to find an honest attraction to someone who is healthy. I very much want that.”
